The Abbey Church of Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe is classified as the UNESCO world heritage. The main reason is because of its Romanesque mural paintings. Most of the paintings are preserved; nevertheless, some have been destroyed by light and humidity as years have gone past. So it's urgent to study the whole program of the paintings. For the master's degree, I studied the aesthetics of the movement of the mural painting, and this study will be conducted on the content of murals. This research will examine the program on the vaulted ceiling of the nave. The vaulted ceiling is separated by north and south sides, each has two bands. But the four bands receive five stories of the Old Testament. How were they distributed? What is the reason for this distribution? We'd be interested in knowing more about the missing part, and we'll try to find out the lost episode and understand the whole painting program. |
