The importance of international education among higher education in Taiwan has been growing in recent years. Particularly, courses taught in English, also known as EMI (English as Medium of Instruction) courses, have been growing in popularity. However, in the field of tourism and hospitality, there are still very few programs that offer all-English education, and little research is available to demonstrate the benefits of such courses compared to conventional, Chinese-based courses. This study therefore aims at evaluating the outcome of EMI courses using Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) method. Job performance of students who graduated from EMI program is compared to that of conventional, non-EMI students. The results show EMI students hold slight advantages in a few areas such as“English communication”and“ability to work in multicultural environment.”On the other hand, one area EMI program needs to improve on is the delivery of“professional knowledge.” |
