This research focuses on the ancient ceramics which were produced from the Dongxi kiln in the area of Zhangzhou, Southern Fujian discovered in excavations and collections in Taiwan. In the past, the academic research focused mainly on imported ceramics that were produced from the Dehua kiln in Quanzhou area during the Qing dynasty and exported to Taiwan. However, in many local temples in Taiwan, there are many preserved ancient ceramics handed down from generation to generation which are also available for study. In addition the author also conducted study on those ceramics found in archaeological excavations in Taiwan. After researching the above materials, the author could conclude that many of them were made at the Dongxi kiln in the area of Zhangzhou. This new discovery indicates that there were significant quantities of Dongxi kiln wares imported into Taiwan during the Qing Dynasty. These ceramics cover a variety of types, including celadon, white porcelain, blue and white porcelain, green glazed stoneware. The function of those ceramic set them apart from the ceramic products of other kilns. There are many types other than the regular dinner and serving wares. The categories include incense burners, decorative items, and lamps. These artifacts actually featured unique characteristics and also had a strong competitive position in the marketplace. |
