The purpose of this qualitative study is to share the life stories of women who have disabilities in order to assist local governments in creating policies and practices to support their wellbeing. Women with disabilities have economic, education work, health, and family needs that should be supported by local communities. This study includes 14 women with various disabilities from Taitung. The 14 women were divided into two groups and with 7 members each. The researcher conducted 4 focused group interview with each group, lasting approximately 90 minutes. Research findings suggested: (1) improvement in access to community facilities; (2) training for employers regarding hiring persons with disabilities and training for persons with disabilities on securing and maintaining employment: (3) developing and improving recreational and sport opportunities for persons with disabilities. Including both segregated and integrated activities for persons with disabilities; and (4) designing and implement educational programs for families, spouses, and caregivers of women with disabilities to prevent violence and discrimination and to promote their health and wellbeing. The conclusion of this research is to increase more accessible facilities as well as destigmatize gender and disability from the government. |
