The purpose of this research was based on the lack of knowledge about the actual condition of nursesworking overtime in Taiwan. The researchers analyzed the record of checking on work attendance of 783nurses being off-duty at a medical center of southern Taiwan in 2005. The findings indicated that 100% of thenurses had experienced overtime. The frequency was up to 68%. The average overtime was one hour perworking day at least. The findings were the condition of this medical center of southern Taiwan and did notnecessarily accurately reflect the situation of other hospitals. However this researcher hopes that the findingswill help policy-makers understand the actual condition of nurses working overtime in Taiwan. They shouldlegislate sincerely concerning policies of human resources in nursing and creating a better well-being for thepeople. |
