Sizihwan, a scenic spot surrounded by the ocean and the mountain, along with its beautiful landscape and manifold historical memories, has become the most eye-catching attraction in southern Taiwan since the early 19th century. National Sun Yat-sen University was founded in Sizihwan by the government in 1980 to advance the development of higher education in southern Taiwan. During the past three decades, the university has captured and maintained thousands of historical materials relating to the history of its development. As claimed, the records created today will become tomorrow's archives enabling future generations to learn about the past, which makes the university realize the importance of archives and put a lot of efforts into the management of it. In addition, the university makes archives available through exhibitions and publications to help the general public understand how the past shaped the institution, its academic achievement as well as the changing of Sizihwan. The promotion activities for archival holdings has attributed the university to fulfill its social responsibility and improve communications with community members, the local government and the general public. In addition, the outreach programs raised the publicity of the university and made the public awareness its leading role in the local community. |
