階層式儲存管理系統之運用

The Implementation of the Hierarchical Storage Management System

為因應交通部中央氣象局（以下簡稱本局）數值天氣預報模式系統及其他資訊系統所產製之大量資料的儲存問題，氣象資訊中心（以下簡稱本中心）於民國84年起規劃建置大量資料儲存系統（Massive Storage System，簡稱MSS），採取階層式儲存管理架構（Hierarchical Storage management，簡稱HSM）來提供本局之即時性作業系統運作型態與作業環境必須維持7天24小時的高可用性，而儲存媒體更必須滿足網際網路上大量資料的流通與配合高速電腦之資料處理能力的需求。本文內容介紹階層式儲存管理運用在本局MSS上的演進及利用。

A Massive Storage System (MSS) was installed at Meteorological Information Center of Central Weather Bureau (CWB) in 1995 for the purpose to archive and backup the massive meteorological observation and forecast data. A Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) infrastructure was adopted to implement the MSS to support the high availability and high-efficiency from the 7 day, 24 hr realtime operational requirement. In particular, the meteorological data has to be accessed frequently and efficiently in a near-line mode. This paper will introduce the transition and the up-to-date HSM infrastructure of the CWB MSS.
