The professional ethics is a set of values, which is embeded in professionals' inner part, and declared by professional associations to present its social common responsibilities. The archivists serve to play the multi-roles of professionals, including the gatekeepers and guiders of archives, the followers of governmental orders, the servers of organizational policies, and the successors of professional knowledge. The ethical dilemma causes the conflict of the role-players in professional services. To solve ethical dilemmas effectively, professionals do need to promote the abilities in ethical decision-making. This article discusses ethical decision making by the four-step analysis method, and applies to study the lawsuit case of William Friedman collection. |
