A 47-year-old man was delivered to the emergency department with no vital signs after an anaphylactic collapse resulting from a honeybee sting. He has experience a bee stinging twice within two years. Although emergency resuscitation was provided as soon as possible, his basic vital signs were restored. Unfortunately, irreversible brain damage due to hypoxia was believed to occur after 4 to 6 minutes of initial delay in golden period of emergent resuscitation, even though we did give him duly and proper treatment. We, as emergency department staff, should pay attention to the systemic reactions to honeybee stings and the pathophysiology of the anaphylactic shock. We hope we can understand better and learn more about anaphylactic shock through this case. |
