Tzu Chi Buddhism organization has grown rapidly and recruited many female be-lievers. To explore the conversion experience of commissioners, the researchers inter-viewed them, their families and friends. We found that they became Tzu Chi commission-ers through social networks to solve problems. After institutionalized religious activities transforming their cognition, emotions and bodily gestures, they were able to be incor-porated into organizational structures. They applied their religious experience to daily practices, alleviated personal trouble, got inside peace and happiness, improved families’ relationship and won families’ support for attending religious activities. Jing Si Aphorism guided their behavior. Sometimes they were shackled by the supernatural explanation inherent in the law of karma, so they could not understand their situations. Motivated by practicing Bodhisattva Dharma, they learned from the mistake made by Tzu Chi Bud-dhism organization, made an effort to help others, and cultivated personal merits. |
