The value of humanity has been emphasized in Chinese culture since pre-Qin times. Among Chinese philosophers, Confucians hold that human beings' behavior is determined by moral values. Human beings are obliged to act according to moral codes-they are true "free men" of a perfect world. Centered on Confucian ethical relationships, this paper attempts to clarify the position of human beings in this ethical structure, elaborates on the relationship between li and fen within the context of moral values, and explains ancient Confucian thoughts on human beings. Particularly, it examines the rationale behind "relational orientation" in relation to ethical relationship and moral behavior, taking into consideration ren and yi in the context of blood relations. |
