Most people may have misconceptions about Physical Education instructor as well as team coach. They view what PE instructor do is working out together with students or simply providing the opportunity for students'' physical activity, while being a team coach on their opinion is just an easy job, which only arranges team practice through out each day. However, being a PE instructor or a team coach has its own responsibilities and challenges and is definitely not as easy as what most people thought. Not to mention if you work a dual position as both PE instructor and college team coach, the complexity of serving both positions is hard to imagine. Although there are many people having such dual position roles in Taiwan, this group of people has been overlooked quite often and rarely receiving the attention they deserve. In this personal narrative essay, the author shared his journey of being a professional tennis coach during a 4 moths professional tour by putting his full-time job as both college PE instructor and college tennis team coach on hold upon the request of one of his players. The author soon realized the responsibility and dilemma coming after his decision of taking this dual positions role, which had huge impact on his life value and brought up a great challenge upon him. By working hard and evaluating himself constantly throughout his own journey and by applying what he learned from his previous competitive player career, the author learned and proved that working as either position (PE instructor & team coach) is not as easy as what people thought and that, just like other professions, it has its own unique value and positive meaning. This essay focus on the author''s process of re-discovering the value and the meaning of working as dual positions (instructor & coach) by connecting a series of inner dialogue and by learning the meaning of life during his pro-tour experience. |
