This paper proposes a new method for teaching -deshoo?. -deshoo? is regarded as an grammatical item that the beginner-level students learn, for example, a textbook for elementary level “Minna no Nihongo” presents -deshoo? as “confirmation” expression in the first part of elementary level, lessen 21. However, there are three problems. First, some example sentences that cannot be explained as “confirmation” expression appear in it. Second, although -deshoo? has other usages, they are not taken up again after intermediate level. Third, some previous researches indicate that it is not necessary to teach -deshoo? in elementary level. In this paper, we classify -deshoo? from the function’s view into two groups: “confirmation” and “raising awareness”, and propose that the former be taught in elementary level, the latter in intermediate level, which have correspondence to “ba” in Chinese, as the item of plain style |
