As a Singapore Chinese Writer who is incorporating historical and cultural discourses in his novels, Chia Joo Ming (1959-) wrote historical novels in the 21st century that gained interests from readers worldwide, namely Reconstructing Chinese Images (2005), 1644: The Year A Dynasty Was Hanged (2012) and Exile or Pursuit (2015) and Kian Kok (2018). The article will focus on the novels and analyse the experimentalisms in Chia's historical writing. The works are written with specific historical backgrounds, with also focuses on the historical narrations and their suitability in Singapore Chinese literature. In other words, Chia's attempt in the novels showed experimental approach in writing that extended the dimensions in Singapore Chinese Literature, while also displaying the thoughts on the relations between individuals and history. |
