In the Chao Foon issue 493 ''Transgender issue'', I first wrote about ''A Brief Introduction to Malaysian Chinese Short Stories'' and after that extended with ''If This is the History of Malaysian Chinese Gay Short Stories'', and started to trace back the earliest Malaysian Chinese gay short stories, wondering that Ya Meng's ''Boat, can bring you away. How about me?'' and ''Flower is not the flower'' are the earliest short stories that can be found so far. Until I found out the ''Yunan and Damie'' in Fang Xiu's Mahua Literature Collection - Short Stories Part I, and compared the original version which published in Nanyang Shibao. The comparison of the differences between the two texts through the definition of Mahua gay fiction and the new criticism reading, this paper tries to prove it is the earliest text of Malaysian Chinese gay short story. Besides that, it also solves the problem of author's biography and misinterpretations of Mahua literary text. Lastly, with the confirmation of the earliest gay short story's text, it will be more important for the future writing in the history of Malaysian Chinese Short Stories or Literature. |
