Through the distributions of two kinds of foreign food, “茄子” and “蕃茄” at Min Dialect regions at Eastern Guangdong, this paper tries to probe the historical changes and the mechanism of change of all these variants. The study is based on synchronic data collected at field and their distributions, together with facts found at literatures. With additional discussions of the propagation of languages of coastal areas and riversides as well as the competition of language propagation by land transportation and that by maritime transportation, it aims to reveal a non-continual distribution of lexical change. |
