Though many studies on the relationships between ordinal position and the Normal(2,3,7,8)or abnormal(1,4,5,6) behaviors have been done since 1929 in the American culture, the study on this subject in the Chinese society is still very rare. Because the ordinal position is, as some student said correctly, rather a cultural or sociological than a psychological variable, comparison of similar studies in different cultures will probably provide more interesting findings which are supplemental to those obtained through the studies in a single culture. The purpose of this study is, similar in some aspects to those done by Rosenow(5) and Levy(4), to examine if the birth order of the patient is, in the Chinese culture, related to the patient's behavior of visiting the psychiatric settings for his emotional problems. |
