Romance in the Frontier(陣中奇緣)' is Xie Xue-yu's(謝雪漁) fiction which published in 1905 on Taiwan Daily News. It is the earliest visible Chinese popular fiction s in Taiwan. The author uses classical Chinese novels to describe his ''exotic'' imagination about the West (France). This article mainly from 'The Formation of Chinese Popular Fiction s at the Beginning of Japanese Administration ' , 'War scenes and geographical imagination under dualistic opposition' and 'landscape and the formation of body-space ' and other topics, analyzing the fiction how to integrate romance and martial arts type, showing a French 'geographical imagination' and the deep structure behind it. In addition, through the landscape of mountains, seas, rivers and lakes, we can see that the space narrative features and epochal significance of Taiwan in the period of Japanese colonial rule and the convergence of cultural elements such as China, Japan and the West. |
