In recent years, the archive of the Communist Party of Taiwan and the Communist International, previously obscure, has begun to be brought out of the shadows due to its organization and publication by Russian scholars. However, various mistakes in the evaluation and interpretation of the documents were made by the archivists. The goal of this study is to examine and discuss these errors. The archivists believe that a certain document in the archive is a certain journal article written by Weng Zesheng, a member of the Communist Party of Taiwan, and published in Shanghai in 1930. The author of this study proposes that the document is in fact a different article penned by Weng Zesheng entitled “Formosa Under the Iron Heel of Japanese Imperialism,” a work long thought to have been lost, also published in Shanghai in 1930, in the semimonthly, Huanqiu. This study examines the document from the perspective that it is the above-mentioned lost article. Besides presenting evidence to confirm this fact, the contents of the document are discussed in relation to questions regarding the history of communism in Taiwan. |
