This study surveyed the Japanese education of Department of (Applied) English (totally 50 departments) and Department of (Applied) Foreign Languages (totally 56 departments) of universities of Taiwan with focus on the Japanese courses offered and qualification of instructors and a comparison with the mission and education goal of individual department. This study also interviewed the students who changed the major from English to Japanese or vice versa to explore how they valued Japanese in study. Results of this study revealed that both Department of (Applied) English and Department of (Applied) Foreign Languages, particular for the latter, had paid attention to Japanese education. Interviews noted the interests on Japanese for students from both Department of (Applied) English and Department of (Applied) Foreign Languages. |
