This paper attempts to undertake a curriculum survey of theFour-Year Undergraduate Program of the Department of AppliedJapanese, to get a better picture of how the Japanese Business Teaching ispracticed in technical colleges and universities. Based on this study, somecurrent problems and difficulties will be discussed and future issues willalso be explored. The result of the survey shows that the business Japanese teachingof the Four-Year Undergraduate Program of the Department of AppliedJapanese is currently constructed on the three course domains--businessJapanese, authentic Japanese business context, and general businessknowledge. No matter whether it is Japanese business context or generalbusiness context, the course content is always surrounded by such topicsas trading, marketing analysis and economy. In terms of languagelearning, in order to increase students’ competitiveness and professionalcompetence in their work domain, business Japanese teaching should notbe limited in business Japanese only; it is necessary to also enhancestudents’ presentation skills, such as briefing or other language skills thatwill be needed on a variety of business occasions. This paper proposes three issues concerning the future BusinessJapanese Teaching, which are 'deepening the content of languagecourses,' “adjusting teaching hours' and 'strengthening students’learning awareness”. To solve the first two problems, every school hasto think about simplifying their goals of education and guiding theirstudents from the basic level of Japanese to the professional one. |
