National Science & Technology Museum (hereinafter referred as NSTM) is the first applied science museum and national social education institution in southern Taiwan. Its main functions include: collecting and conducting research on science and technology artifacts, designing exhibits for technology-related topics, promoting science and technology education and providing a leisure and lifelong learning site. Since 1986, NSTM's development in museum education strategies have been shaped by various leadership styles from its directors and different department chiefs. This paper uses SWOT analysis to examine the evolution and development of museum education activities. It discusses the strengths, the weaknesses, the opportunities and the threats NSTM has had for nearly 30 years. It covers the periods from preparation for museum opening, migration of the north building and the south building to its current operating period. In addition, recommendations for future development in education strategies are stated according to Weihrich's views of comparative analysis using SO, ST, WO and WT. |
