Community residents protested the building and primary opening stages of the National Science and Technology Museum(NSTM). In September, 1998 the NSTM started its ''Community Relation Program'' in the 14 surrounding villages to improve the community-museum relationship. The purpose of this research is to study the effects and results of the program. To fulfill this, a survey was conducted to find out the residents' recognition, participation and satisfaction to the program, and their place attachment to the NSTM. The research finds that the residents have a moderate level of place attachment to the NSTM, and the level varies according to the variables of occupation, residence and whether being a volunteer at the NSTM. The residents' satisfaction to the program is also at a moderate level, and the level varies according to the variables of residence, the participation and whether being a volunteer at the NSTM. About 60% of the residents involved in the survey recognize the program. Their place attachment and satisfaction to the program varies according to their recognition level and participation rate to the program. Finally, the research proposes how to increase the residents' recognition to the program and how to enhance the residents' place attachment. |
