For the scholars in Yuan Dynasty, the opinions of Chu His (朱熹) were really important.; however, they did not repeat Chu Hsi's opinions in all respects. Therefore, we should not ignore the distinct achievements by scholars in Yuan Dynasty. As a masterpiece that compiled and interpreted Yi Li (儀禮, Classic Li), Yi Li Jing Chuan Tong Jie (儀禮經傳通解), edited by Chu Hsi was well known to the scholars in Yuan Dynasty, including Ao Jigong( 敖繼公) , who wrote another important book Yi Li Ji Shuo (儀禮集說, literally collected works of Classic Li). Although Ao Ji-gong accepted some views from Chu Hsi, he also criticized Chu Hsi's opinions in Yi Li Ji Shuo. On the other hand, Chu Hsi had ever referred to the opinions of Zhang Chun(張淳), who compared and corrected the text of Yi Li before Chu Hsi in Southern Song Dynasty. According to Ming Ru Xue An (明儒學案,Case Studies of Ming Confucians),Ao Ji-gong was said that his achievements were similar to Zhang Chun without any demonstration. In order to evaluate Ao Ji-gong's academic achievements, we compare Yi Li Ji Shuo with Yi Li Shi Wu (儀禮識誤), written by Zhang Chun and Yi Li Jing Chuan Tong Jie (儀禮經傳通解). We consider that Ao Ji-gong had a lot of excellent insights different from the opinions of Zhang Chun, Chu Hsi and the other scholars. Yi Li Ji Shuo has a unique value in the academic history. |
