The purpose of this paper was to examine the structures and functions of a “V-tearu” sentence in a discourse. In this paper, the sentences were categorized into Type I and Type II based on whether the predicative of a sentence includes modality or not. The differences of sentence structures in these two types are as follows: Type I sentences were constructed by a component of a proposition and another component. On the other hand, Type II sentences were constructed by the combination of modality. In addition, there were differences in sentence functions. Type I sentences were used for the description of space. However, Type II sentences were used for the addition of explanation / comment or the depiction of speculation judgment. Furthermore, the correlation between the structure of the discourse and “V-tearu” sentences were examined. |
