The 2001 Kaohsiung Lantern Festival had successfully implemented 3D/VR virtual reality by applying i3DBox, a new 3D/VR technology for web-based environments was created by Micro Sova company, and won over the supports and praise from e-generation over Taiwan. The people who connected to the internet were able to enjoy the lantern activities. It certainly provided the public a brand new vision and achieved the entire object of making cultural activity with vivid 3D/VR technology. In recent years, many museums over the world have been greatly influenced by the wave of digitization and currently digitize their exhibits. Needless to say, the implementation of virtual reality motivates the visitors to join the activities. As the visitors' are allowed to participate in the online activities, they are able to appreciate the artwork and interact with artwork from different perspectives. Thus, the quality of the presentation of virtual reality dominates the website visiting of viewers. Traditionally, museum visitors are able to exchange opinions toward personal aesthetic appreciation. Yet, in virtual reality environment of digitized museum, computer users are restricted by in time interactive mechanism. While the technology has increased dramatically, the technology of i3DBox used in the implementation of 3D/VR of the 2001 Kaohsiung Lantern Festival has gradually been in the spotlight. The specialty of i3DBox provides public with an opportunity to exchange real time information with virtual reality. This type of technology sets a new direction for virtual reality development. As the result, this paper aimed at the prospective development of museum digitization through discussions of virtual lantern festival. |
