In order to comply with the regulations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (''TPP'), on August 11, 2016, Taiwan's Executive Yuan approved amendments to the Copyright Act. The amendments, if enacted, will affect several articles in the copyright Act, and will change the threshold for triggering criminal liability in cases of destruction of technological protection measures, allowing the prosecution of copyright infringement relating to electronic copies without the need to file a complaint, and subject decoding and receiving satellite signals without authorization to civil and criminal liability. Not long after several amendment drafts were submitted to the Legislative Yuan, on January 23, 2017, the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, delivered on a campaign promise and signed a statement formally withdrawing the United States from the TPP. |
