Museum accreditation schemes encourage museums to examine themselves and ensure they are meeting the standards required of them under the museum law. Taiwan has many museums, but without a nationally agreed standard, it is difficult to maintain service quality across the museum sector. An accreditation scheme is needed urgently. The study examines schemes operating in the USA, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. An accreditation scheme for Taiwan is then proposed, covering the three aspects of museum management, collection conservation and public services. |
