This article discusses the life, personality and thought of Professor Hsiao Chi-tsung, based on two of his works: Xinghuai ji and Duwang ji. Professor Hsiao, a Hunan native, was precocious and talented since his childhood. He attended Central Political College. In the Sino-Japanese war, he saw the ordeals of people and put them into his poems, in which patriotism abounds. After coming to Taiwan, he taught in Tunghai University and initiated many students into the realm of Chinese literature. Later on, he served in the Kuomingtang (The Nationalist Party) and devoted himself to the rejuvenation of Chinese culture. He was awarded Special Contribution Award for his work in the study of Chinese literature. |
