The Association for Asian Studies (AAS) held its 54th annual meeting and book fair from April 5 to 7 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington D.C. Ms. Hsu Hui-juan (許惠娟) of the Reader’s Service Department represented the NCL at the event, which featured several pre-meeting seminars and 228 discussion sessions during the three-day run. Scholars of Asian studies from around the world participated enthusiastically in the exchanges.
About 100 or so exhibitors attended the book fair, and while their numbers were smaller than in earlier years, the mood was just as energetic as before. The NCL, represented by the Bureau of International Exchange of Publications, and Center for Chinese Studies (CCS) were the only two exhibitors present from Taiwan. Their displays featured a combined 168 publications, including many exquisitely illustrated and printed titles. The success of the two exhibits owed in part to the assistance provided by Secretary Lin Yi (林逸) of the Cultural Division under the U.S. Taipei Economic and Cultural Office. |
