National Taichung Library, winner of the Executive Yuan Service Quality Award for two years running, added a new feather to its cap with the opening of a free play area for toddlers as young as a year or less old. The first of its kind among public libraries in Taiwan, the new area will make it easier for parents with infants to visit the library.
Library director Cheng Liang-hsiung (程良雄) said that on visits to the U.S., Japan and other countries he noted that most libraries had children’s areas to accommodate readers with infants. He stressed that while few parents bring infants to the library, libraries should still provide convenient facilities for such readers. He also noted that libraries can help toddlers develop by providing reading material for them. |
