Taiwan county inaugurated an inter-library computer network on December 8, concluding seven years of planning and implementation. The new system will let readers search online for more than 925,000 titles at 33 libraries in the county and conveniently request books from participating branches.
Tainan county received funding in 1994 to develop the library network, which by 1998 had connected 15 township and city libraries with the Tainan County Cultural Bureau. In the second phase of the project computer classrooms were established and the functions of the system were expanded. The third phase, completed recently, linked up an additional 17 libraries at 16 townships and cities. |
