Brothers Ke Chi-kang and Ke Chi-ts’un opened a free community library in Taoyuan city on July 1. The brothers, owners of a successful fish feed company with factories in Taiwan, mainland China, and Southeast Asia, invited community leaders to join the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The library is located at the site where the two brothers first opened their business after moving to Taoyuan from Taipei 20 years ago. The brothers spent more than two months planning the library and over NT$3 million to build and stock it with books. The collection currently comprises 3,000 types of publications on a wide variety of topics. Ke Chi-kang said that although his parents placed great importance on educating him and his siblings as children, the family was often too poor to afford to buy school textbooks them. |
