Some 80 scholars and experts convened in Kenting, southern Taiwan from November 5 to 7 for a seminar on the management of public libraries in the Taiwan area. The three-day seminar sought to encourage in librarians new thinking and understanding of new concepts of library operations in the information age.
The seminar was sponsored by the NCL Taiwan Branch with assistance of the Kaohsiung Municipal Library and under the guidance of the Ministry of Education and the NCL. Keynote speeches included “Public Libraries in the 21st Century,” delivered by Library Association of China president Huang Shih-hsiung (黃世雄); “New Thinking on Library Management,” presented by Tamkang University Library director Huang Hung-chu (黃鴻珠); “Marketing Strategies for Public Libraries,” by Prof. Liao You-sheng (廖又生) of National Yang Ming University; “Service Standards for Public Libraries,” by Prof. Mao Ching-chen (毛慶禎) of Fujen Catholic University; and “Reinventing Public Libraries for the 21st Century,” by Prof. Nancy Ou-lan Chou (胡歐蘭) of National Chengchi University. |
