When discussing the formulation and use of Song court administrative documents, historians usually outline the process starting from report submission and ending with the issuance of the official document. In this regard, there have been quite a few scholarly achievements in recent years. Nevertheless, some situations and steps in the process are not yet fully understood. The present paper intends to probe into the highest tier of the process. It explores how official documents were formulated and handled in the Forbidden City and the roles played by the women of Inner Court Secretariat. |
