The intent of this report is to underst and the usage and type of plasticizers used by the plastic film industry being sold in Taiwan. Thirty plastic film products from various brand and packaging were sampled between September, 1989 through May, 1990. Among the collected samples, 11 products were made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), 6 of polyvinylidenedichloride (PVDC), 12 of polyethylene (PE), and one of polybutadiene (BDR). The GC procedures were used to test for dioctyl adipate (DOA), acetyltributylcitrate (ATBC), di-butyl sebacate (DBS), and dioctyl phthalate (DOP). The results showed that 11 tested PVC, 6 contained with DOA (0.23-21.35%), 1 with ATBC (2.58%), 1 with DBS (1.79%) and 1 with a mixture of DBS & DOP (3.10% and 2.90%), while 2 products have found none of the 4 plasticizers. Of the 6 tested PVDC, 5 contained both DBS (0.18-0.26%) and ATBC (2.31-2.99%), 1 contained DBS (0.20%), ATBC (2.45%) and DOA (0.16%). None of the four tested plasticizers were found in the 13 PE and BDR plastic film products. |
