The following article illustrates the hospitalization and recovery of a female trilithon enthusiast after a bicycle accident with several complications. Due to poor road conditions, the athlete was involved in a bicycle accident and fractured the left side of the sixth and seventh ribs, clavicle and ulna, as well as left lung pulmonary contusion combined with pneumothorax and hemothorax. The hospitalization period was from March 27 to April 17, 2016. The author used the Parse human becoming theory to assess the needs of the patient. After the analysis, several issues were identified: the need for pain relief, the inability to manage the anxiety of the unexpected results from the removal of the chest tube, and the need to overcome physical limitations caused by the fractures. To resolve the above problems, the author used the cotranscending-transcendence principle of the Parse human becoming theory to conduct a creative and alternative nursing procedure. Such procedures included having deep conversations with the patient, communicating online through Line and Facebook, customizing a micro-film, “Because of You, Because of Me” , listening to classical violin pieces, and learning how to express oneself through the character Sadness in the animation “Inside Out”. The attending doctor also gave the patient a book titled “At the Foot of the World”. Through the efforts of the nursing staff and the attending doctors, the patient was able to overcome her three critical health issues. Such methods can be used for future reference and aid the recovery process of patients facing similar situations. |
