From Oct 1986 to May 1987, 713 samples of marketed fast foods (Chinese style and American style) were collected from the fast food stores of four areas in Taiwan, tested for the microbial survey. 116 samples were Chinese style, and 597 samples were American style. The results were: Staphylococcus aureus was detected 3.9% (28 samples), Staphylococci 23.1% (165 samples), E. coli 4.1% (29 samples), Salmonella spp. 0.3% (2 samples). Above all, 25.1% of the samples failed to meet the Food Hygienic Standard. During the autumn, winter, and spring seasons, the detection frequencies were 22.3% 25.5% and 27.4%. With the analysis of variance, the detection frequency showed seasoal vairance, and there is no positive stastistical correlation occurred between the detection frequency and Chinese/ Western style of fast food. |
