Objective: Because of the Taiwan Ministry of Education's multiple admission-channel policies, the main sources of students enrolled at the nursing departments in technical and vocational universities are general and comprehensive senior high school graduates. Thus, to promote the teaching effectiveness, this study aimed at understanding students' learning experiences, which can form a basis for refining teaching skills. Methods: This study conducted focus-group interviews involving 20 nursing students enrolled in 4-year programs at a technical and vocational university in Northern Taiwan. Three focus-group meetings were held, each of which lasted approximately 2-3 hours, with each participant attending at least one meeting. The in-depth interviews were conducted following a semi-structured guideline and recorded. The interview recordings were transcribed for a content analysis. Results: The postenrolment learning experiences of the nursing students are summarised into the following four thematic experiences: the unbearable load; intertwining mixed feelings about internships; the desire of needs; and setting off again and catching up. Conclusion: This study faithfully presented the learning and emotional states of students graduated from senior high schools. The findings may serve as a reference for course design, lesson planning, and student counselling in the future. |
