To understand the intention and behavior of smoking cessation in diabetic patients, we conduct a cross sectional study based on the Theory of Planned Behavior. We recruited 120 diabetic patients in a medical center in Taipei. The results are as the following: (1)109 male and 11 female with mean age of 54.5 years old were recruited. Their duration of diabetes was 7.1 year. 25% of them were with comorbidities of diabetes. (2) Among the 120 participants, 33.3% showed intention of stopping smoking in the next 2 months, 66.7% had no intention with uncertainties. (3) Attitudes, perceived behavioral control and subjective norm were all positively correlated with these patients behavioral intentions of smoking cessation, with Attitudes> Perceived behavioral control >Subjective norm. (4) Conviction of quit attitude, behavior and the results of the evaluation of the product positively correlated. There were significant level, and strong positive correlation between the subjective norms, normative beliefs, motivation of the product, perceived behavioral control and control beliefs, the product of perception and power. (5) Attitude and perceived behavioral control predict behavioral intention of quitting smoking in diabetic patient with R2=64 by multiple regression analysis. |
