Stroke usually causes serious injury to individuals both physically and psychologically, and it becomes a heavy burden for individuals, families and society to care for these patients. However, with the help of aids, patients can significantly improve their quality of life. In this study we did a demand and satisfaction analysis of aids for stroke patients. The subjects were ischemic stroke patients in the outpatient department of a regional teaching hospital in central Taiwan. A total of 165 subjects were interviewed. The results showed that 60.3% were male, 62.8% were aged over 70, 50.3% were cared for by families, and most had suffered their firstever ischemic stroke. More than 90% of the stroke patients (mild: 92.9%, moderate: 85.0%, severe: 92.9%) used assistive devices. The most commonly used types of assistive devices were: mobile aids (76.9%), bathing aids (10.6%) and device aids (3.8%). Satisfaction with the use of aids approached 80%. |
