Higher education in Taiwan launched general education since 1990's. Some scholars intend general education is to complete "Human Awakens", hence doubting whether operating, practical, common sense, as well as leisure courses which nurture talent and language education should be parts of general education. This research studied the current status of Japan-related courses in general education of universities in Taiwan. Investigation revealed that Japan-related courses count on about 1% of all general education courses, while private universities have offered higher ratio of Japan-related courses than public universities. The contents of these courses are mostly Japanese language; with general universities offered most literature courses than universities of science and technology. Also, survey shows that only one university offers philosophical course of Japan and no universities of science and technology offer historical courses of Japan. Compared to the multivariate courses offered in general universities, courses in universities of science and technology are more practical in contents. |
