Fire spread from motorcycles to the neighboring buildings always results in fatal deaths, injuries and losses. This study conducted full-scale burning experiments to access the behavior of motorcycle fires under the conditions with and without the automatic sprinkler equipment. It was observed that the spread and growth of motorcycle fires were effectively suppressed with the sprinkler activated by measuring the heat release rates and the average flame heights. The activation of the automatic sprinkler system can reduce the heat release rate in fully developed period from 1 MW to 0.03 MW for single motorcycle fire, and 4 MW to 0.3 MW for multiple motorcycles fire. |
