The conventional procedure used in the traffic design of elevator systems is to determine the average number of passengers that can be transported in a fixed period of time. In this study, a revised conventional method for lift systems design is formulated to minimize both cost of the elevators and the cost of utilizing the floor space. The model determines the optimum number of elevators for building with six kinds of moderate heights. The results led to a general guidance standards for designing elevator approximately size to serve needs. We examine the sensitivity of the values to change in design variables. Some recommendations for designing elevator systems are drawn. |
