From the beginning of the 1910's, the vicissitude of Taiwanese “Native Consciousness” went through many alteration and obstacles. From the “Native Literature Debates” in the early 1930's, we can clearly see the subjective connection of Taiwanese intellectual thoughts of “Native” equivalent to “Taiwan.” Since the outbreak of Sino-Japanese war in 1937, Taiwanese were set forced to “Kominka Movement” The most notable writer and journal regarding “Native Consciousness” were Wen-Huan Chang and Folklore Taiwan published in 1941. It's interest to find out the linkage between the colorful expression of “Locality” and “Native Consciousness” by the Taiwanese cultural circle and the essence of “Native Movement” stressed by Imperial Japan. The subject of “Native Literature” and “Falk Crafts” entered at the wartime. “Eradication of Taiwanization” before the war is the main subject that Japanese Empire has to be faced on the premise of war synthesis. Under the political atmosphere, the “Native” literary works of Taiwanese cultural circle which appeared after 1941 were obviously not a simple one. This paper intends to study the relation of flow and subordination between “National Consciousness” and “Native Consciousness” expressed by prewar intellectuals. |
