The aim of this review article was to discuss the impact of successful aging after physical activity intervention in aged adults. Firstly, the types and characteristics of physical activity intervention were reviewed, including home-based intervention, group-based intervention, and educational physical activity intervention. Secondly, the influential factors of successful aging were reviewed, including emphasizing wellness instead of fitness and introducing the allostatic load model in terms of health. Subsequently this article reviewed how the physical activity intervention affects successful aging, including effects of physical activity intervention on allostatic loading, cohesion, the amount of physical activity, participation rate, and the limitations in the studies of physical activity intervention. Finally the summary and possible directions of future studies were addressed. |
