Recent studies have shown that physical inactivity has negative impact on academic achievement. With the advance of technology, screen-based sedentary behaviors, such as watching TV, using computers, surfing the Internet, playing online games, and using cell phones, have become more prevalent. However, it is equivocal whether the engagement of these sedentary behaviors is associated with academic performance. This article examined the cohort studies to explore the relationships of screen-based sedentary behaviors with academic achievement among adolescents. It also discussed the definition and categories of sedentary behaviors, the relationships between teenagers' screen-based sedentary behaviors and academic achievement, and the evaluation of related literature. Finally, some suggestions for future research are provided. |
