The qualitative analysis is a process of using qualitative methods to study things of our interest. An Ordinary duty of an athletic coach involves much of the said process, especially with regards to observing 'the quality' of performance. One particular suitable way of conducting qualitative studies in coaching of competitive gymnastics is to utilize biomechanical methods, by studying the observed information and providing the study outcome as guidance for gym athletes to refine their skills. To construct a sound procedure of qualitative analysis, notice should be put on the personnel involved, recording techniques, interpretation of the results and communication between the persons involved. In coaching gymnastic technical routines, we can first build up a mechanical model as reference, and then based on real-time observations and post-analysis on recorded data to point out flaws and deduce the causes, evaluate the flawed movements and mark out pathways and priorities in the corrective strategy chosen. We believe that through this structural procedure, coaches could gain more insights in understanding performances, and research outcomes would also be more directly connected with the actual training applications, and help advancing performance level. |
