The purpose of this study was to identify and compare the preference for teaching styles of the college adult and traditional students in Taiwan. An instrument, Preference Inventory for Teaching Styles, was developed to determine the students' preference for teaching styles. This instrument was administered to 1458 students including 672 adult students and 786 traditional students at seventeen colleges in Taiwan. The findings of this study were:1. The ages of adult students are almost 23-40.2. The first preference of adult students is "independent study", the second one is "discussion",and the last one is "teacher central teaching".3.The first preference of traditional students is "discussion", the second one is "peer teaching", and the last one is "teacher central teaching". 4.Adult students get higher score than traditional students in each teaching styles. 5."Age" can influence students' preference for teaching styles. 6."Sex" and "Major" can influence students' preference for teaching styles. Based upon the findings and conclusions, recommendations for program design, teaching, and guidance services were discussed and suggestions for further research were also presented. |
