This study conducted preceptor assessments of the five core competencies of new nurses in basic training courses. The sample comprised 99 preceptors. The results were as follows: 1. The average scores for the provision of patient-centered care before training were from 2.50 to 3.27, and after training were from 2.84 to 3.61; 2. The average scores for the ability to work in interdisciplinary teams before training were from 2.09 to 3.08, and after training were from 2.45 to 3.51; 3. The average scores for the use of evidence-based practice before training were from 2.16 to 3.01, and after training were from 2.52 to 3.38; 4. The average scores for the application of quality improvement before training were from 2.55 to3.92, and after training were from 3.14 to 4.03; 5. The utilization of informatics before training were from 2.97 to 3.17, and after training were from 3.52 to 3.96. The Preceptor assessments of the new nurses' five core competencies after basic raining courses of training showed significant improvement. The results may be used by medical units to revise the duration of nursing training programs. |
